PROGRAM

SUNDAY:

Regular flights from London Gatwick to Porto airport make Central Portugal a convenient flight destination.

You will be transported between 12:00 / 14:00 hours for a 2½ hour drive by Landrover.

From Porto airport to your first activity site in the

Serra da Estrela mountain range.

MOUNTAIN CAMPSITE

We will be providing you with spacious 2-men tents for comfort, sleeping bags and roll mats.

You will take charge of selecting your tent

location in our beautiful mountain wildcamp venue.

Sunday afternoon is spent exploring your new home, getting to know your expedition team and setting up camp.

We will provide food for breakfast and lunch and you will be cooking as a group ‘camp style’ every evening.

MONDAY:

Group 1

You will spend the day with instructors learning the skills and techniques of rock climbing in a spectacular mountain setting.

The climbing will suit your experience and no previous training is necessary. You will work together in climbing teams to learn rope security techniques and climbing skills so that you can gain access to some incredible mountain views accessible only through this exciting activity. Instructors will closely monitor your progress to guarantee safety.

Group 2

You will enjoy exploring the mountain passes armed with map, compass and GPS. You may discover mountain shepards and their trusted ‘serra da estrela’ mountain dogs while you pass ancient ruins on this forgotten part of the mountain range.

Throughout your stay your expedition team will have wildlife guides available for you to investigate the abundance of mountain and river life you observe on your activities.

EVENING EVENT

Night navigation treasure hunt. After dinner a series of evening navigation challenges await.

TUESDAY:

Group 1

You will navigate a GPS route through a stunning mountain landscape.

Group 2

You will spend the day with instructors learning the skills and techniques of rock climbing in a spectacular mountain setting.

RIVER CAMPSITE

Break camp and move to the activity site river Mondego where you will set up a river side wilderness campsite.

The River Mondego, legend tells, was created by the tears of a Moorish princess pining for her warrior husband. Today the river Mondego is a wide tranquil waterway which winds its way through acres of pine and eucliptus forest.

It is home to a unique wildlife ecosystem including; red kites, grey herons and the occasional wild boar.

WEDNESDAY:

Group 1

You will be instructed in basic kayak skills before you depart for the day to explore the mighty river Mondego. Your trip will include instruction in a number of paddle techniques, the opportunity to nature watch and plenty of swimming to cool off.

Group 2

You will work as a team to build and race a raft on the river Mondego. Provided with a range of materials you shall design and build a raft…... or get very wet!!!

After the raft race you will have time to relax or explore the area around your camp.

THURSDAY:

Group 1

You will be instructed in basic kayak skills before you depart for the day to explore the mighty river Mondego.

BACK TO CIVILISATION

Break camp and travel to the city of Coimbra. Relax in a local restaurant and spend the evening exploring this beautiful ancient city before retiring to your hotel.

FRIDAY:

After breakfast we depart for Porto and your journey home.
